Electric Air Fryer

No grill? Live in an apartment? You’re in luck, because a lot of people use air fryers of various styles to achieve perfectly cooked meats. In fact, I’m going to link a video of Guga preparing “every style” of meat. His recipes are amazing! The second video link is Dante Ferrigno who has an phenomenal health and weight loss story by doing the Lion Diet. His 30 second intro is proof. Dante cooks his ribeyes from frozen in an air fryer.

When you see these videos, you will learn that even without an open flame, it is highly possible to cook excellent meats and enjoy a happy carnivore life.

Electric Griddle

I LOVE my Blackstone propane griddle. Since buying it, I use it almost 90% of the time to prepare my “outdoor” meats. These consist mostly of steaks and burgers, especially smash burgers. I don’t like indoor smoke smells. My wife doesn’t grill and doesn’t like to mess with propane, so I got her the Electric 17″ tabletop griddle from Blackstone, and it is surprisingly awesome.

The griddle top is coated, not iron, so it’s easier to clean. The temp setting is as simple as it could ever be. You can even sear steaks on it, which shocked me. Prepare anything on this that you would a pan on your stove. It’s simple!

Propane Griddle

This is my personal go-to carnivore tool, a 22″ Blackstone Griddle with lid. Because I use this in my daily RV life, it makes cooking outdoors simple. I set it on a table, use it, and when done, it stores either in the back of my truck until the next destination, or in a storage bay. The rear grease management system sets this griddle apart from others because it collects my grease and helps me keep a very clean campsite. A bonus to using a griddle is that I can add a char flame to any meat by simply torching it with my handheld torch. I’ll share that on this page as well. Smashburgers ONLY work on a griddle, and  it’s simple with this!

2 Burner Propane Grill

My “land based” grill is a behemoth Jenn Air, and it’s a monster. It also is not portable, so it went into storage when I got into an RV. For the money, I couldn’t beat what the Nexgrill offered me when it comes to use, cleaning, and storage. RV’s define the phrase “A place for everything, and everything in it’s place.” If I didn’t have the room, I’d not have a traditional grill, and I would stick with the griddle. But this thing is very lightweight, and as I just learned, pretty durable, because I literally knocked it off the table outside my rig as I was sitting down to work on my laptop building these pages. No damage!

Misen Kitchen knives

My suggestion is that if you’re going to be a carnivore lifestyle person, it’s important to have a sharp set of knives. Your single greatest tool is a good kitchen cutting knife. I personally use a Misen 8″ kitchen knife, shown here, and I keep the edge razor sharp.

You’re an adult, using adult tools. Make one of those a superior cutting knife so that when you cut your own steaks from a loin, you may do so with ease.

Justified: one Misen 8″ blade is the equivalent of 10 bags of Doritos, 6 Ribeye steaks, or 20lbs of ground beef.

You’re a quality person who has embraced that you’re worth eating better for you food, so treat yourself well when it comes to enjoying your life. This is most certainly something you deserve. And you won’t find yourself visiting an ER from cutting yourself with a dull blade on a cheap knife.

A wireless thermometer has proven to be very unreliable for me because often the signal is lost if in a steel enclosure. I’ve tried many types, from handheld stick-in style to mechanical old school, and finally discovered this Polder thermometer via a Michelin chef on YouTube. I bought one, and haven’t looked back. In fact, I have 2 spares in the event I can’t locate them ever again.

I use this in my oven, on my griddle, and in my grill. The best feature is that it’s magnetic, so I can attach it easily to any metal surface. It’s also adjustable, so you can set it on a countertop and lean the display however you prefer.

What can I say? There’s few tools in the kitchen as valuable as a great thermometer, because meat temp is vital and critical. This one is the best I’ve ever used.

Honing Rod

Before we discuss a great steak knife, let’s discuss how sharp they need to be. Whether you’re cutting daily or weekly, your knives must always be sharp. I don’t mean a little. I mean razor-sharp. A dull knife is extremely dangerous and can hurt you far worse than a sharp knife. Once you have a sharp blade, it’s important to keep it that way.

Every time you go to use a knife, whether steak knives for dinner or blades for cutting meat and vegetables, make sharpening on a rod your first priority. Clean the blade after sharpening to remove any metal dust contaminants. And be sure to do this where dust won’t find its way into your food. I highly recommend a full sharpening kit, as your knife is your best prep and eating tool next to a fork.

Cooking Torch

Known as a Sous Vide (soo-vee) gun, this is a portable blowtorch that is perfect to use for creating char in meats when you don’t have an open flame. An example is when you are griddling vs grilling. The griddle will cook something, but to sear, you need very high heat (500deg). To get char, you need an open flame. An open flame is dangerous, and you need to be very careful with this tool.

It is possible to overcook meat with it, so be very cognizant of temps. This is where some patience and learning come together. I like my steaks so rare, that whatever I don’t finish, I’ll ride home. That said, I have let a ribeye sit out of the fridge for an hour or so which gets it to just a tad warmer, but not much. I put it on a cold griddle and torch it for a perfect sear, and it cooks it just the way I like!
